Daniel's Story
The story that inspired La Jefa Foundation.
Daniel Adrian Barajas was a son, brother, uncle, friend, and beloved member of our family.
In 2022, Daniel died unexpectedly under circumstances that left our family searching for answers.
What followed was a journey through grief, unanswered questions, public records requests, legal proceedings, and a deeper understanding of how difficult it can be for families to navigate complex systems after a tragedy.
La Jefa Foundation was created to honor Daniel's memory by promoting truth, transparency, due process awareness, public education, and support for individuals and families seeking information, resources, and a path forward during difficult times.
REMEMBERING DANIEL
Before there was a court case, there was a person.
Daniel was known for his sense of humor, generosity, and love for family. He was the kind of person who would help others without being asked and who maintained close relationships with those he cared about.
To those who loved him, Daniel was far more than a headline or a legal matter. He was a brother, son, uncle, and friend whose absence continues to be felt every day.
WHAT HAPPENED
A Search For Answers
Following Daniel's death in Arkansas in 2022, our family began seeking answers to better understand the events surrounding his final hours.
As records were obtained and reviewed, questions emerged about what occurred, how decisions were made, and why so many questions remained unanswered.
What began as an effort to understand Daniel's death became a years-long journey through public records requests, legal proceedings, investigations, depositions, and the court system.
Along the way, we discovered how difficult it can be for families to access information, navigate complex legal processes, and cope with the uncertainty that often follows a traumatic loss.
That experience ultimately inspired the creation of La Jefa Foundation.
Today, our mission extends beyond our own family's story. We seek to promote transparency, educate the public, and help connect individuals and families with resources as they navigate difficult circumstances of their own.
WHAT WE LEARNED
Lessons From The Journey
Truth Matters
Families deserve access to accurate information and transparent processes.
Due Process Matters
Procedural fairness protects everyone, regardless of circumstance.
Questions Matter
Families should never be discouraged from seeking answers.
Support Matters
No family should have to navigate tragedy alone.
WHY WE CREATED LA JEFA
Turning Grief Into Purpose
Throughout our journey, we met other individuals and families facing their own tragedies, searching for answers and trying to navigate unfamiliar systems during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Many were grieving.
Many did not know where to begin.
Many struggled to understand legal processes, public records systems, or where to find support.
We realized that while every family's story is different, many share the same need:
Someone willing to help point them in the right direction.
We realized that while we could not change what happened to Daniel, we could use what we learned to help others facing similar challenges.
La Jefa Foundation was created to honor Daniel's memory by promoting truth, transparency, due process awareness, public education, and support for individuals and families seeking resources and answers.
DANIEL'S LEGACY
Daniel's story continues to inspire our work.
While we cannot change what happened, we can work to ensure that families facing uncertainty, loss, and difficult questions have access to information, resources, and support.
Daniel’s memory lives on through that mission.
